The trends are very good right now, but the numbers don’t lie either.  After the first 18 games (one “inning”) the Tigers were 4.5 games back in 3rd place.  After the next 18 games (2 innings) the Tigers are 5.5 games back in 3rd place.
Yet, there are indications that what was planted in the spring is about to give fruit as summer approaches.  Let’s look at some key numbers.

• They are 3-6.  So far they have won one game of each series (Yankees, Orioles and Royals).

Looking back to this afternoon- the Tigers won again.  I like the sound of that, let's hear it again.  "The Tigers won again."  Yes, it has a beautiful ring to it.  Today they beat a split squad from the Red Sox.  But with Scuturo, Youkilis, Pedroia, Veritek and Ortiz in the line up I would say it was a fair fight.

Harwell was the voice of the Tigers for many years (1960-2002).  He was teamed up with Paul Carey from 1973-1991 and so it was their two voices that I associate most with the Tigers as a kid.

Game 7 stunk.  The Tigers lost 10-5 on terrible defense and not enough offense.  The pitching was not all that great either (15 hits allowed plus 5 walks).  Meh, there's nothing to see here (or much to write about either).

Verlander went 5 innings and gave up 4 runs with 1 walk and 6 strike outs.  Greinke went 6 innings, giving up 1 run with 1 walk and 4 strike outs.   But there is only 1 Zack Greinke and after the 6th he was done.

He got a fresh start with the Nationals and became Come Back Player of the Year in 2007.  I sort of lost track of him after that.
